Hayame
JINBA CANON 21 AGE Meridian FACTION Tier 3 HARMONIZATION LEVEL
ch. 11 CANON POINT Female (She/Her/Warrior) GENDER Iconoclast ASPECT Tier 1.5 DISCORD LEVEL

FIRST IMPRESSIONS
Hayame is a jinba (centaur) whose lower equine half is that of a dun mare. She stands over seven feet tall and weighs over half a ton. Both her mane and tail are jet black and long, hanging down to her fetlocks when untied. Her build is that of a field jinba (light horse breed), and her physique is perfectly honed by training since childhood. Her arms and shoulders display the distinct musculature of an archer. She wears a simple, sleeveless top that crosses in the front over a tight binding worn to try and minimize her bust, all held shut by a pelt tied around her "waist" with a harness from which she hangs weapons, supplies, or other tools. She also wears a rope tied just behind her withers for gripping when running to align her spine for optimum speed.

You will almost never see Hayame smile. Her expression is a prime example of Resting Bitch Face, and she almost always looks angry, offended, or cold, contemplative at best. She holds herself physically apart from others and doesn't even seem to directly touch people she interacts with somehow (unless it's in anger and she's laying hands). Though her human-like parts are more trained to disguise her feelings, her equine parts can sometimes be used to read her actual mood, especially her tail.

Update (Injury): Hayame is currently missing her left eye, and covering the left side of her face with a leather patch.

Update (Jewelry): Since Harmonizing with Meridian, Hayame wears her iliachtida bead on a necklace, with the chain disappearing into her cleavage and the bead tucked safely away into the binding she wears on her breasts.

Update (Eye): Having been kidnapped and nonconsensually operated on, Hayame now has a green Hag's Eye implanted in what was once her empty left socket. She is still covering it constantly with a patch.

Update (Hair): Because Hayame cut off her long mane and sacrificed it to the Harbinger Oracle effigy, she is now sporting barely shoulder-length hair. In public, it is always worn up.

SHARD

Hayame's shard is an arrowhead-shaped and sized piece of obsidian set between her breasts, just above her lower sternum. There is a shallow crack running through it diagonally. There will be very few chances to see it, between her modest dress and how tightly she binds her chest. ( Reference )

ASPECT TATTOO
Hayame's Iconoclast tattoo is located right on the C7 vertebrae at the base of her neck. It is often visible, because she usually wears her hair up in a high ponytail and her robes sit a bit lower in the back than in the front.

PERSONALITY
Above all else, Hayame is ruled by determination, denial, and desperation. She has lived her life consumed with the goal of surviving with her arms intact to reach a point where she might be sold as a warrior and not be condemned to life as mount or broodmare. To this end, the tenets of a Japanese warrior have been the most important thing for her to live by. Chief among these are strength, honor, pride, and loyalty, traits that she has cultivated ever since she was old enough to realize they were what would give her the best chance in the slavery system jinba live in amongst humans.

Hayame is not a nice person. Or rather, she certainly doesn't come off that way. As part of her goal she has cultivated a cold, stoic exterior, and in battle or on missions is capable of ruthlessness and cruelty. She is not a talkative person, tending to keep to short, to-the-point speech, and also has a temper she struggles to keep in check at times. When she is in control of her situation she appears aloof and icy, but when she isn't, she has a bad habit of lashing out and not being able to reign in her words or actions.

Hayame is capable of kindness, if given time. Still learning to allow herself to form bonds or appear soft/weak, Hayame can be frustrating to deal with in the interim. She has a reputation as a "stallion hater", likely stemming from her distaste at the idea of being sold as a broodmare and her jealousy over the fact that male jinba have more opportunities than females, but she is slowly overcoming her general distrust and harsh judgement of men. She has also proven herself capable of some degree of naivety, caught off guard and shocked by "normal" or "casual" things that are a far cry from the highly ritualized and affection-less environment she grew up in.

More recently, Hayame is consumed with shame and self-hatred stemming from her actions in her world and her failure to commit honor suicide. She is still wrestling with the realization that she is afraid to die, that she wanted to live, and that despite all that... Now she is here, in a world without any of the people she longed to prove herself to or to save. She is currently lost, torn between believing she may have gone mad or that this is some kind of personal hell. It is difficult for her to trust, unable to after her upbringing, constantly on edge and likely to lash out or get into trouble until she finds something or someone to actually believe in again.

BACKGROUND
The world of Jinba is that of Japan- the difference between this setting and the historical being the existence of jinba, (essentially centaurs). For centuries man and jinba lived in harmony, rarely meeting... until humans discovered war. Once the thought was born to harness their power... the peaceful race of jinba became nothing but tools to humanity.

Jinba’s Part One takes place towards the end of the Warring States period. Warlords locked in power struggles with each other over land, politics, and control of key resources has led to high demand for military forces, particularly the prized jinba.

[ Read More (JINBA: Part One spoilers) ]
Hayame is a jinba born in the stables of an outpost in Japan's northeastern region. She has survived to adulthood by proving her loyalty to her master as a "good horse", introduced during the rituals held before the year's auction. A "mare like her" (loyal, obedient, handsome) fetches as much as a small fief, but proving herself an excellent archer does not change the fact that buyers seem to view it as a pity that she is female.

When the newly-captured Matsukaze and the armless Kohibari escape, it is Hayame who is tasked with leading a team to pursue them. She views this as her opportunity to show off her skills and worth, trying to ensure she's bought by a military leader as a warrior instead of as a broodmare or mount. Though she does recapture them, Hayame finds herself taken as a prisoner when they are attacked by young jinba from a hidden village in the mountains. Though her brother survives and tracks them, Hayame commands him to leave her and report about the village. Judging herself not worthy of freedom due to her failure, she stays behind to sabotage things before her master arrives, or die trying.

Though Hayame attempts to kill Matsukaze by diving into a waterfall while tied to him, she is ashamed to find that not only does he save her, but she is relieved to be alive. Hayame's life begins to change. She gets a taste of what it is like to live without a master, to be around free members of her own kind, to form bonds. She’s given hope that perhaps there might be a life out there that she never could have imagined for herself.

Until her master arrives with an army in tow. She had to confess to Matsukaze that she is to blame for giving away the village's location, that her inability to fully trust in a free future had kept her mouth shut... and now everyone was in danger of enslavement, or worse, because of it. Prioritizing the escape of his pregnant sister, her husband/his friend, and the orphaned jinba, Matsukaze comes up with a plan... but in order for it to work, he needs someone to bring a flame to light the gunpowder he will wear after he's drawn the humans into a trap beneath a vulnerable cliff face.

Hayame volunteers.

ABILITIES & SKILLS
NATURAL ABILITIES & SKILLS (POSITIVE)    WEAPONS MASTERY:
➳ trained in archery (specifically the daikyu long bow) since childhood
➳ also proficient with blade and naginata polearm

   FIELD JINBA BIOLOGY (POSITIVE):
➳ can reach maximum speeds of approx. 40km/h speed on land
➳ enhanced sense of hearing, sight, and smell
   ➳ good night vision
➳ high levels of endurance and resistance to the elements
➳ two sets of some organs allow for reliance on the auxiliary if injured
➳ above-human levels of physical strength
capable of: kicking with a force of around 2,000 pounds per square inch, lifting a grown man off his feet with one hand, crushing bones underhoof, carrying hundreds of pounds on her equine back, utilizing a bow over six feet tall with a 100+ pound draw weight with no sign of strain, etc., etc.

   FIELD JINBA BIOLOGY (NEGATIVE):
➳ not capable of laying down on her side for a long period of time
➳ weak to leg and hoof injuries because of her large body
➳ somewhat affected by breeding seasons
Hayame goes into short heats approximately once every three weeks from spring to fall. With human intellect she has the capacity to keep these under control for the most part, but she does get frustratingly horny, restless, and easily aroused. If it interacts with Meridian Discord, things can get more desperate.
MAJOR POWER: BLESSING OF THE WAR GOD Calling upon the Blessing received from Set, Hayame can momentarily assail a target's mind with feelings of menace, leaving the target with a feeling of peril associated with her for up to 1 minute.
MAJOR POWER: FIELD OF MAGIC RESISTANCE Hayame's frustration with fighting magically-powered enemies and her mental rejection of magic in general has manifested the unconscious ability to produce a Field of Magic Resistance around her body. Within this invisible field, Hayame receives a resistance buff against magical abilities targeting her, and it takes more effort/energy to cast spells that affect her body, her mind, or the environment within the field with magic. In addition, a sort of "weight" or "drain" may (with OOC consent) settle on magically/divinely/demonically/etc-powered enemies the longer she engages them in battle, slowly bringing them closer to more mundane levels of physical ability.
MERIDIAN SPELLS TIER 1:
   ➳ Light
   ➳ Expeditious Retreat
   ➳ Shield

TIER 2:
   ➳ Counter-Spell
   ➳ Create Food & Wate
   ➳ Non-Detection

TIER 3:
   ➳ Commune with Nature
   ➳ Fire Shield

TIER 4:
➳ Thaumaturgical Pulse (aka The Anti-Magic EMP)
Hayame releases a blast of energy that purges everything* within it of advantages granted by supernatural origin, the ability to cast spells, and power buffs granted by magical items, boons, arcane substances, etcetera. Essentially, all those within the established zone of approximately one baseball field are reduced to the limits of mundane biology. The barrier will remain in place for 24 hours, or until Hayame is dissipated.
* everything given OOC consent

OUT OF CHARACTER
Writing Style: I do brackets, and I will stick with those, but I don't mind receiving other formats.

Backtagging: Alright, within reason. If there's a lack of communication about delays in tagging and the thread isn't development-heavy or plot-related I may drop it if it drags on for too long or if tags start coming with large gaps in between. Usually I will ping you to notify you if this happens. Please note that I will stop pursuing or prioritizing CR if threads keep getting dropped with no contact about them.

Dropping/Handwaving Threads: I do not ever mind if a thread needs to be dropped or handwaved, just please communicate with me about it. This especially applies if the thread was intended to drive a CR development or is plot-/lore-relevant. If I was enjoying our thread and do not know why it seems to have been dropped, I will likely contact you privately to ask about it. This is not intended as pressure to tag or not drop the thread, just a request for clarity on its status.

Threadhopping: Sure, bring it on.

Offensive Subjects: No particular squicks, but I will tell you if something comes up.

Content Warnings: Hayame's canon is one that deals with a variety of very difficult issues, including but not limited to: slavery, forced amputations, sexual abuse, beheading, pseudo-cannibalism, and suicide. If you are uncomfortable with any of these topics, please don't hesitate to notify me on this screened Opt-Out post, or through other forms of contact!

IN CHARACTER
Physical Violence: Hayame is an aggressive character who will likely threaten violence upon others (very easily) and get involved in fights potentially with PCs as well as NPCs. I'm more than willing to thread out violence, as well as the consequences of said violence.

Death/Dissipation: If the proper meaningful or story-driving circumstance arises, I am open to dissipation. I would like her to see end-game, so I am not open to perma-death.

Physical Affection: Hayame is usually violently opposed to touch on most all levels, and pursuing it will potentially require me to refer to your "Physical Violence" permissions section. OOCly I'm all for it, but just please be aware how difficult it is to get past her high defenses and viewing of affection as weakness. She has gotten better about this in-game over time, but she is still likely to lash out if touched without warning, and especially likely if touched in public.

Shipping/Sex: ICly it's difficult, but OOCly I am thirsty and all for it. Hayame is canonically described as a "stallion-hater". Despite preferring men sexually, she has long resented the opposite sex because of the struggles she's had to endure as a female in her world/culture, and she associates sex with abuse and the life of a broodmare. However, there is a part of her that kind of wants to get rid of her virginity, since it was a symbol of being owned and part of her auction price... and also a part of her that really does want to be loved. UPDATE: After a lot of development in-game Hayame has accepted the overtures of a certain Meridian and entered into a relationship, and since she takes loyalty very seriously she will not be seeking out sex or romance intentionally from other characters. However, I am still OOCly open for effect-driven sexual incidents, tension, and the occasional Kiss Bingo-like shenanigan!

Mental/Communion: Hayame does not enjoy Communion and the vulnerabilities that come with it, so she prefers to conduct her business in person, and only Communion with those she trusts. She still often recoils from voices in her head. You're welcome to communion her, but she may often not respond or be very curt/cold as a default. Her Communion "space" is like as cold mountain peak in a snowstorm, with the white snow covering harsh stone and all of her warmth and precious things hidden deep in caves, inaccessible to most. Those mentally probing her with magic/abilities will find that Hayame is a very damaged young woman who has spent her life as an overseer of her own kind in a slavery system and only just recently begun to come to terms with this. Most notably, she is a strong believer in honor suicide, and struggles with suicidal ideations. I'm comfortable exploring these mind traps when/if they come up.

Offensive Subjects: Hayame will react very strongly and very negatively to being compared to a horse or other animal, any attempt at riding her/getting on her back, enslavement themes, amputation, and insinuations of centaur sexual habits or tastes.
